Prison Ministry
Join our Prison Ministry
Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them. Heb 13:3
Prison Ministry Objective: To show the incarcerated that they have not been forgotten by God and that God anxiously waits for them to embrace Him. Volunteering in this ministry not only impacts the life of the incarcerated, but it also impacts your walk of faith.
The Parish participation in this ministry is only limited by the number of volunteers. Our experience as volunteers in the various programs is that the incarcerated are hungry for the Word of God. Come evangelize and serve at the same time. The Saint Gabriel Prison Ministry Team supports our incarcerated brothers and sisters at several different facilities. We meet the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 6 pm in the church building. To join, please complete the form at the bottom of this page.
Our current outreach areas include:
- Kairos retreat for incarcerated men at State Farm Correctional Center in Goochland (retreat members, cookie bakers, people to pray throughout the 4 day retreat, people to attend the closing ceremony).
- Supporting Mercy Mall in Chesterfield (https://mercymallva.org/) by hosting a yearly drive for "Cases of Hope" which provides women leaving incarceration with a suitcase full of needed items like clothing and toiletries and by volunteering in person at Mercy Mall.
- Letter writing, in conjunction with the Southside Prison Ministry. Letters of encouragement are written monthly to men who have participated in Mass or Communion Services at State Farm Correctional Center or at Beaumont Correctional Center in Beaumont.
- Hosting a group of men at the Chesterfield County Jail who choose to watch an episode of Christian drama series "The Chosen" followed by facilitated discussion.
