Adult Formation opportunities 2009 - 2010
Whole parish and whole life catechesis...

(Please click here to refresh this page to see updates or changes)

Our parish is dedicated to offering opportunities for personal faith development for every parishioner at every stage of life...

When our adult parishioners actively participate in their own faith formation, the faith development of all the children and youth of the parish is enriched and enhanced.

And so...
beginning with our Newcomer Assemblies, we strive to provide our adult parishioners with a variety of opportunities to assist in their ongoing faith development.
This makes catechesis - deepening our experience and understanding of faith - an endeavor that involves the whole parish at every stage of our life and that goes on for our whole life as believers.

Newcomer Assemblies

We invite newcomers – adults and children – to meet the pastor, staff and parishioner leaders around a meal, conversation and prayer. It’s a time for new households to get acquainted with our vision, goals and resources as a faith community.

Newcomers formally register their household during the assembly. The assembly fee ($30 per household) provides the permanent name badges that parishioners wear to Masses and other events, and helps cover the cost of food and materials for the assembly.

Our online registration form will provide the dates for the next two Newcomer Assemblies.

The FEAST

The FEAST is a series of multi-generational gatherings held throughout the year. Each set of gatherings is repeated three times so parishioners can choose among an early Sunday afternoon, early Sunday evening or Monday evening gathering.

Parishioners of all ages - with or without children or teens at home - assemble for a meal, prayer, reflection, discussion, song, presentations and other faith sharing and building experiences.

These assemblies provide one element of our ongoing faith formation opportunities for adults, teens and children. They are a required supplement to all formal religious formation and sacramental preparation sessions. There is no cost to attend, although we ask a donation to cover food expenses.

Date Night
Marriage Enrichment

The St. Gabriel Marriage Ministry is presenting Date Night to engaged and married couples who want to strengthen their commitment to one another. If you have only been together for a few months or a few decades, Date Night is designed to support the continual growth of your relationship.

This monthly opportunity to enrich your marriage starts in September following the 5:30 p.m. Saturday mass. Stay in the worship space after mass for a brief introduction of a topic for your date and receive a “secret” envelope for each of you with a suggestion of something special to do during the month for your spouse.

Professional childcare will be available following the mass until 9 p.m. Infant-Age 3 in nursery, Ages 4-6 in the commons and Ages 7 - 11 in the teen center. Your child will receive a meal, there will be activities and games for them to participate in and a completed craft you can bring home to display on the fridge or in a similar place of honor. Signups for the childcare begin in August.

Childcare fees:
Season 1 (Sep - Jan) - $35 per child (including meal)
Season 2 (Feb - Jun) - $35 per child (including meal)
[$30 for each additional child, with a cap of $125 per family for each season].

Bible Studies
Exploring the Scriptures

Exploring the bible can be a rich experience, but daunting to do on your own. We offer three opportunities to break open the scripture dependent on your interest and schedule:

Thursday mornings from 10 a.m. - 12 noon we offer an introductory bible study that will explore different books of the bible in an accessible and yet enriching study.

Monday evenings from 7 - 8:30 p.m. you can go a bit deeper into the scriptures as you are given practical tools to “decode” the bible and relate the scriptures to our lives today.

Tuesday mornings, from 10 a.m. – noon we will offer our most in depth study of one of the four gospels to uncover not only the author’s intent, the cultural context, but also the scripture’s application in our own lives.

All studies start in October.

Watch the bulletin for offerings, and signup
at the adult formation table prior to the start of a study.

Preparation for Infant/Toddler Baptism
Preparation Sessions for Parents

Parents take part in faith formation sessions in preparation for the baptism of their infants or toddlers. The sessions aim at helping parents center themselves and their home life in faith. They also familiarize parents with the symbols and rituals of baptism to help deepen their experience of the baptism liturgy. (When parents have recently taken part in baptismal participation, we do not ordinarily require them to repeat the preparation for another child).

There is a $50 fee for the preparation sessions.
